School Closures / Late Starts
The following procedures shall be used when decisions are made to alter the normal school schedules due to inclement weather or emergency conditions: The Transportation Supervisor will contact the state and county road crews and other appropriate agencies for road conditions around 4:30 a.m. These agencies will have up-to-date road information including road closures. Based upon their information, she will make a call to the superintendent or deputy superintendent to make recommendation for possible schedule changes. Either the superintendent or his designee will then make the final decision and notify the principals of the school(s) involved in the schedule delay or closure. Either the superintendent or his designee will notify KAPS Radio, and Neah Bay School Information line of the change in schedule. The principals will notify their teachers and activate their individual phone tree system. Power Outages: If the power goes off during the day, PUD will be contacted by the superintendent or his designee to determine how long before the power will be restored. If the power is determined to be off more than two hours, the school(s) will be dismissed and step 2, 3,and 4 above will be followed. If the power is out during the night, and not restored by 5:30 a.m.-but will be restored shortly, we will start school at 10:00 a.m. Steps 2,3, and 4 will be followed. If the power will not be restored by 12:00 school shall be cancelled for that day and steps 2,3,and 4 shall be followed. Multiple power outage days in a row will be dealt with as they occur.
You can call the Neah Bay School Information line (645-2221) or the phone trees at any of the schools to find out about delayed starts or school closures.
